Why is it so hard to access and share your own medical images?

Hospitals hand you a plastic disc that modern computers cannot read, and specialists in other cities have no way to receive it. PostDICOM fixes that.

CDs no longer work

Modern laptops and tablets have no CD drive. The disc your hospital handed you is unreadable on most devices — and unplayable on a phone. Your images are inaccessible before you even get home.

Getting a second opinion means carrying a disc

To see a second specialist you have to physically carry your CD to each appointment — or wait days for the hospital to send images by post. There is no fast, reliable way to forward your own scans.

Your medical history is scattered

X-rays from one clinic, an MRI from another, a CT scan from a hospital visit three years ago — your imaging history lives in different places with no central copy you actually own and control.

Sharing with a doctor abroad is nearly impossible

If you see a specialist in another country, or consult a doctor online, there is no practical way to send DICOM-quality images. Email attachments are too small, and DICOM files require software most recipients do not have.

How do patients share medical images with any doctor without a CD?

PostDICOM takes three steps: upload your files once, organise them into folders, then send a password-protected link to any doctor — anywhere in the world, with no disc required.

01

Upload your images

Upload DICOM studies from a CD, USB drive, or downloaded files — directly from your browser. You can also attach PDF reports, lab results, and any other documents alongside your images. Everything uploads in the background.

02

Organise into folders

Create folders by date, condition, or body part. Give each folder a clear name — for example, Knee MRI 2024 or Cardiac CT Follow-up. You can add more images and documents to any folder at any time.

03

Share with your doctor

Generate a password-protected link for the folder or individual study. Send it by email or text, or print a page with the link and QR code to hand over at your appointment. Your doctor opens it in any browser — no account or additional software needed.

What can a patient do with their own DICOM images in PostDICOM?

PostDICOM lets you view, organise, share, and protect your medical images — all from your browser, with no technical knowledge required.

View your images in full quality

Open your CT, MRI, X-ray, or ultrasound images directly in your browser — on any phone, tablet, or computer. The PostDICOM viewer includes zoom, window and level adjustment, measurements, and MPR. No additional software or account needed.

Share with any doctor in seconds

Generate a password-protected link for any study or folder. Send it by email or text. Your doctor clicks the link, enters the password, and opens your images in their browser — no account, no additional software required on their end.

Organised medical history

Create folders by date, body part, condition, or clinic. Your full imaging history — across years and multiple providers — lives in one place that you own and control.

Reports and documents alongside images

Store PDF reports, lab results, pathology findings, referral letters, and JPEG images in the same folder as your DICOM studies. Share everything your doctor needs in one link.

Upload from a CD or downloaded files

If your hospital gave you a CD, use a USB CD reader to copy the files to your computer and upload them to PostDICOM. Or upload DICOM files downloaded from your clinic's patient portal — all standard DICOM formats are supported.

Your data stays private

All files are encrypted in transit and at rest. Share links are password-protected, and you can set an expiry date on every link. You choose which data region your images are stored in. Your medical data is never used for advertising or shared with third parties.

When do patients actually need to share their own medical images?

PostDICOM is used in six common situations — from getting a second opinion to managing a chronic condition — putting your imaging history in your hands ready to share at any appointment.

Getting a second opinion
Upload your scans once. Send the same link to as many specialists as you need — each gets immediate access in their browser, no disc required.
Seeing a specialist abroad
Share your imaging history with a doctor in another city or country. They open your studies in their browser — no international post, no special software, no delay.
Living with a chronic condition
Keep a complete, dated archive of every scan across the years. Your full imaging history is in one place — ready to share with any new clinician at any appointment.
Managing a family member's health
Store and share imaging records for your children, parents, or partner. One account can hold records for the whole family, each in its own folder.
Keeping everything in one place
Attach your lab results, pathology reports, and referral letters alongside your DICOM images. Everything your doctor needs — in one link.
Follow-up after surgery or treatment
Track progress over time by uploading follow-up images at each appointment. Share the full timeline with your surgeon or oncologist before your next visit.

Common questions

How do I get my medical images onto PostDICOM?

If your hospital or clinic gave you a CD, you can use a USB CD drive to copy the DICOM files onto your computer and then upload them to PostDICOM from your browser. If your provider gave you a download link or a USB drive, you can upload directly from those files. PostDICOM supports all standard DICOM formats from any imaging modality.

Can I view my own images without any special software?

Yes. PostDICOM includes a full browser-based DICOM viewer. Open any study in Chrome, Firefox, or Safari on your phone, tablet, or computer and you can view your images in full diagnostic quality — including zoom, window and level adjustment, measurements, and MPR views for CT and MRI. No additional software or installation is required.

Does my doctor need a PostDICOM account to view images I share?

No. You generate a share link from your account and send it to your doctor by email or text. They click the link, enter the password you set, and the images open in their browser immediately. Nothing to sign up for, nothing to install. This works for GPs, specialists, radiologists, or anyone else you choose to share with.

Can I send the same images to more than one doctor?

Yes. You can share the same link with as many doctors as you like — for example, when seeking a second opinion or coordinating care between multiple specialists. You can also create separate links with different passwords or expiry dates for different recipients.

How long does a share link stay active?

By default a share link stays active until you delete it or change its settings. You can also set an expiry date when you create the link — after that date, the link stops working automatically. This is useful if you want a doctor to have temporary access for a specific consultation.

Can I attach my lab results or referral letters alongside my images?

Yes. PostDICOM stores PDF reports, JPEG images, MP4 videos, and other document types alongside your DICOM studies in the same folder. When you share a folder link, your doctor can access both the images and all the documents you have attached — everything they need for a consultation in one place.

Can I manage imaging records for a family member?

Yes. The Family plan and above let you create multiple user accounts and organise records for different family members in separate folders. This is useful for managing the health records of elderly parents, children, or a partner who is not comfortable managing their own online account.

Is my medical data secure?

Yes. All files are encrypted in transit using TLS 1.2/1.3 over HTTPS, and encrypted at rest using AES-256. Share links are password-protected, and you can add an expiry date to any link. PostDICOM holds CE Mark Class IIb certification as a medical device, ISO 13485 quality management, and ISO 27001 information security certification. Your data is never used for advertising or shared with third parties.

Where is my data stored?

When you create your PostDICOM account, you select your primary storage location from 12 independent Microsoft Azure regions: EU (Germany (Frankfurt), France (Paris)), USA (East, West, South Central), UK (London), Switzerland (Zurich), Canada (Montreal), Asia-Pacific (Singapore, Australia (Sydney), India (Pune)), and South America (Brazil(São Paulo)). Your data is hosted within your selected jurisdiction to help you meet local data residency requirements and comply with regional healthcare privacy laws (such as GDPR or HIPAA).

What happens to my images if I cancel my subscription?

Before cancelling, download any studies and documents you wish to keep. When your subscription ends, all your data is permanently deleted from our systems. Your account record is retained for accounting purposes only.

Can I access PostDICOM from my phone?

Yes. PostDICOM works in any modern browser on iOS and Android, as well as on Windows, Mac, and Linux computers. You can upload files, view images, and generate share links from your phone. No app download is required.

What types of files can I store?

PostDICOM stores DICOM files from any imaging modality — CT, MRI, X-ray, ultrasound, PET, mammography, and others. Alongside DICOM studies, you can store PDF documents (reports, referral letters, prescriptions), JPEG and PNG images, and MP4 video files.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. All plans include a 7-day free trial with full access to your selected plan's features. We use Stripe 3D Secure authentication at sign-up to verify your card — this is a 0 authorisation. You are not charged until your 7-day trial expires, and your subscription auto-renews unless cancelled. You can easily cancel any time before the trial ends.

Your first share link replaces your first disc.

7-day free trial. No charge until it expires, and your subscription auto-renews unless cancelled. No additional software to install for viewing or sharing. Upload your first study today and share it with your doctor before your next appointment.
