Old Way vs PostDICOM
CDs take 10–20 minutes to burn, get lost or scratched, and require compatible software the recipient often doesn't have. PostDICOM replaces the entire workflow with a secure link that opens in any browser.
Who Uses PostDICOM
Any clinic or hospital that captures, stores, or shares DICOM studies can use PostDICOM — regardless of specialty or size.
Sharing Features
PostDICOM includes password-protected links, patient de-identification, folder organisation, peer account sharing, API-powered automation, and support for non-DICOM clinical documents — covering every sharing scenario from a single study to an entire patient archive.
Generate a secure share link for any study, individual series, or report. Set a password, an expiry date, and choose whether the recipient can download the files. Recipients view images in their browser — no account required.
Remove identifying DICOM fields and proprietary private tags before or after upload. Share cases for second opinions or research while ensuring strict HIPAA/GDPR compliance.
Organise studies into folders by patient, referring physician, or case type. Share an entire folder with one link — recipients see everything inside, password-protected and expiry-controlled.
Search for other PostDICOM account holders and share studies directly to their library. The recipient's account receives the images automatically — no links, no downloads, no manual handover.
Use PostDICOM's JavaScript API to programmatically create folders, generate share links, and set passwords. Automate image distribution to patients or referring physicians from your own system.
Share non-DICOM files alongside imaging studies — PDF reports, JPEG images, MP4 surgical videos, and BMP files. Everything a referring physician or patient needs, in one link.
Access Controls
Each share link can be configured with a password, an expiry date, Two-Factor Authentication, series-level selection, and download permission — giving you precise control over what the recipient sees and for how long.
How It Works
Sharing takes three steps: upload your study, configure and generate a share link, then send it. The recipient clicks the link, enters the password, and the viewer opens in their browser — no additional software required.
Upload DICOM studies directly from your browser, or connect your imaging devices to auto-send via the Medical Device Communicator. Non-DICOM files upload alongside DICOM studies.
Choose which series or reports to include, set a password, enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), set an expiry date, and decide whether the recipient can download the files. PostDICOM generates a unique link instantly. Send it by email, or print the link with its QR code and hand it directly to the patient.
The recipient clicks the link, enters the password, and PostDICOM viewer opens in their browser — on compatible PCs, Macs, and tablets, with no additional software to install.

FAQ
PostDICOM medical image sharing lets clinics, hospitals, and radiology centres share DICOM studies and clinical documents with patients, referring physicians, reporters, and specialists via a secure, password-protected link. Recipients open the study in a zero-footprint HTML5 viewer in their browser — no account, no additional software, no app required.
No. The recipient clicks the share link, enters the password you set, and the viewer opens directly in their browser — Chrome, Firefox, or Safari — on compatible PCs, Macs, and tablets. Nothing to install.
Yes. You generate a password-protected link for the study and send it to the patient by email or messaging. The patient opens their images in the browser and can view, zoom, and pan the study with the full HTML5 viewer. No PostDICOM account is required on the patient's side.
There are two ways. You can generate a password-protected share link and send it by email — the physician opens the study in their browser immediately. Or, if the referring physician also uses PostDICOM, you can search for their account and share the study directly to their library.
Yes. When creating a share link, you can select which series or reports to include. This means you can send only the relevant scan to a specialist — for example, sharing a single MRI series for a second opinion without exposing the full study.
Yes. When generating a share link, you can enable 2FA. After the recipient clicks the link and enters the share password, PostDICOM sends a 6-digit one-time code to their email address. They must enter this code before the study opens. This adds a second layer of verification beyond the password alone.
Yes. When setting up a share link, you can choose whether the recipient is allowed to download the DICOM files to their computer. If download is disabled, the recipient can view and interact with the study in the browser but cannot save the files locally.
Yes. PostDICOM lets you generate a printable page containing the share URL, the password, and a QR code. You can print this page and hand it directly to the patient at their appointment — no email address needed. The patient scans the QR code with their phone or types the URL manually.
Yes. When generating a share link, you can set an optional expiry date. After that date, the link stops working and the recipient can no longer access the study. This gives you control over how long shared data remains accessible.
PostDICOM's infrastructure is architected to support HIPAA and GDPR-compliant workflows. Data is encrypted at rest with AES-256 and in transit via TLS 1.2/1.3. Share links are HTTPS-only and password-protected. Per-link Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is available for additional access control.
Yes. PostDICOM stores and shares non-DICOM clinical files — PDF reports, JPEG and BMP images, MP4 videos — alongside DICOM studies. All files are accessible within the same shared link, giving the recipient a complete clinical picture.
De-identification securely removes or replaces identifying DICOM fields (Patient Name, Patient ID, Address, Accession Number) and strips out proprietary private tags so the case can be shared without revealing the patient's identity. Use it when sharing for second opinions, research, teaching, or legal purposes while maintaining strict HIPAA/GDPR compliance.
Yes. PostDICOM provides a JavaScript API that allows you to programmatically create folders, upload studies, generate share links, and set passwords. This enables automated distribution of imaging links to patients or referring physicians directly from your own patient management system.
Before cancelling, download all studies and documents you wish to retain. When your subscription ends, all remaining patient data — DICOM studies, images, and reports — is permanently deleted from our systems. Your account record is retained for accounting purposes only.

Yes. You can organise studies into folders by patient, referring physician, or case type, then generate a single password-protected link for the entire folder. The recipient accesses all studies inside the folder through one link.
