Who Uses PostDICOM
Any clinic or hospital that captures, stores, or shares DICOM studies can use PostDICOM — regardless of specialty or size.
The Challenge
On-premise PACS forces departments to absorb server costs, IT overhead, and siloed data that blocks remote access — PostDICOM was built to solve each of these directly.
Hardware, software licences, server room, UPS systems, and a dedicated IT team — traditional PACS infrastructure costs tens of thousands to set up and thousands more every year to maintain.
Burning CDs for patients, setting up VPN tunnels for referring physicians, or emailing compressed images — none of these are fast, secure, or scalable.
When each clinic or department runs its own local storage, studies don't follow the patient. Clinicians at other sites can't access prior imaging, leading to repeat scans and delays.
Accessing studies remotely requires either complex VPN configurations or expensive dedicated systems. Neither works well outside the facility network, and both create bottlenecks when a second opinion or report is needed urgently.
What PostDICOM Provides
PostDICOM provides cloud storage, a zero-footprint dicom viewer, secure sharing, reporting workflows, device integration, and API access — all built to work together from day one.
Store all DICOM studies in the cloud across 12 Microsoft Azure regions. No on-site servers, no maintenance contracts, no hardware refresh cycles. Studies are available from any authorised browser, anywhere.
Open, measure, and report on DICOM studies in any browser — Chrome, Firefox, or Safari — on compatible PCs, Macs, and tablets. No viewer software to install or licence on each workstation.
Generate a password-protected share link for any study in seconds. Set an expiry date, enable Two-Factor Authentication, and control whether recipients can download files. Works for patients, referring physicians, and remote radiologists alike.
All sites share a single PostDICOM account with role-based access control. Define which users can upload, view, share, merge, or delete studies — across every location in your network.
The Medical Device Communicator connects your CT, MRI, X-ray, ultrasound, and other DICOM-capable devices directly to PostDICOM. Studies route to the cloud automatically after acquisition — no manual upload required.
Assign studies to the reporting clinician, use modality-based report templates, and track report completion status. Completed reports attach to the study and are included in the same share link sent to the referring physician.
Store and share non-DICOM clinical files — PDF reports, JPEG images, MP4 videos — alongside DICOM studies. Everything the referring physician or patient needs, accessible in one link.
PostDICOM works as a complete standalone system — no RIS required. Create scan orders before the patient arrives; your imaging devices retrieve the worklist automatically via DICOM MWL. Incoming studies match the order and are filed under the correct patient record. For walk-in scans with no pre-registered order, PostDICOM builds the patient record automatically from the DICOM tags in the incoming study.
PostDICOM offers JavaScript, FHIR, and DICOMweb integration options — usable from the browser or server side. Connect your RIS, HIS, or patient management system to automate study routing, worklist delivery, share link generation, and patient notifications.
End-to-End Workflow
PostDICOM connects every step — from device acquisition to report delivery — without any additional middleware.
Your CT, MRI, or X-ray device sends the DICOM study directly to PostDICOM via the Medical Device Communicator — or staff upload manually from the browser. The study is available in the cloud within minutes.
The assigned clinician opens the study in the PostDICOM viewer from any browser — in the hospital, at home, or from a remote location. Advanced tools include MPR, MIP, 3D rendering, and measurement overlays.
The assigned clinician completes the report using a modality-based template. The completed report attaches to the study automatically and is accessible alongside the images.
A password-protected share link is generated and sent to the referring physician or patient. They open the study and the attached report in their browser — no account, no additional software, no CD required.
Multi-Location Networks
Yes — whether you run two clinics or a network of twenty hospital sites, PostDICOM gives all of them a shared study library, unified permissions, and instant access to every study from any authorised browser, at any location.

FAQ
PostDICOM can serve as your primary cloud PACS for storing, viewing, and sharing DICOM studies — without on-site servers or dedicated IT infrastructure. It supports all standard DICOM modalities and connects directly to your imaging devices via the Medical Device Communicator. Whether you are replacing an ageing on-premise system or setting up imaging for the first time, PostDICOM provides the same core functionality at a fraction of the cost.
Yes. Many hospitals use PostDICOM alongside an existing on-premise PACS — for example, to handle image sharing with referring physicians and patients, to provide remote radiologist access, or to manage studies for a specific department or satellite clinic. PostDICOM integrates via standard DICOM protocols and does not require replacing your existing infrastructure.
The Medical Device Communicator (MeDiC) is a lightweight software component that connects your DICOM-capable devices — CT, MRI, X-ray, ultrasound, and others — to your PostDICOM account. Studies are routed to the cloud automatically after acquisition. No manual upload or intermediate storage step is required.
Yes. PostDICOM supports multi-location deployments under a single account. You can define user groups with role-based permissions — controlling who can upload, view, share, merge, or delete studies — across all locations in your network. Each location can have its own users while sharing the same cloud storage and study library. Beyond account-level access, any user can share a specific folder directly with a named colleague or a user group within the account, with fine-grained controls over whether the recipient can re-share, edit contents, or view all studies in that folder.
You generate a password-protected share link for the study and send it by email. The referring physician clicks the link, enters the password, and opens the study in their browser — in their modern web browser, with no additional software required. You can optionally enable Two-Factor Authentication and set an expiry date on the link.
Yes. PostDICOM's zero-footprint dicom viewer runs in any browser, so radiologists can open and report on studies from any location — home, a remote reporting centre, or another hospital. The viewer includes MPR, MIP, 3D rendering, window/level adjustment, and measurement tools. Modality-based report templates are built in, and completed reports attach to the study automatically.
You can send the patient a password-protected share link by email or generate a printable page with the URL, password, and QR code to hand over at their appointment. The patient clicks the link or scans the QR code and opens their images in modern web browsers — no account, no additional software, no CD required.
All data in transit is encrypted via TLS 1.2/1.3 over HTTPS. Data at rest is encrypted with AES-256. When anonymizing data, PostDICOM securely strips identifying fields and proprietary private tags. Share links are password-protected and can optionally require Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), where the recipient receives a 6-digit one-time code to their email before the study opens. You can also set expiry dates and control download permissions per link.
When you create your PostDICOM account, you select your primary storage location from 12 independent Microsoft Azure regions: EU (Germany (Frankfurt), France (Paris)), USA (East, West, South Central), UK (London), Switzerland (Zurich), Canada (Montreal), Asia-Pacific (Singapore, Australia (Sydney), India (Pune)), and South America (Brazil(São Paulo)). Your data is hosted within your selected jurisdiction to help you meet local data residency requirements and comply with regional healthcare privacy laws (such as GDPR or HIPAA).
PostDICOM's infrastructure is architected to support HIPAA and GDPR-compliant workflows. The platform holds CE Mark Class IIb certification as a medical device, ISO 13485 for quality management, and ISO 27001 for information security. Data encryption, access controls, audit logging, and data residency selection are all built in.
Before cancelling, download all studies and documents you wish to retain. When your subscription ends, all patient data — DICOM studies, images, and reports — is permanently deleted from our systems. Your account record is retained for accounting purposes only.
Yes. PostDICOM provides a JavaScript API and supports FHIR and DICOMweb integrations, usable from the browser or server side. This enables automated study routing, worklist management, and patient data synchronisation when connecting to your Radiology Information System or Hospital Information System.
