Who uses a cloud PACS for mobile imaging?

Any service that acquires DICOM studies in the field — from a solo operator with a portable X-ray unit to a national mobile imaging company — can use PostDICOM without on-site PACS infrastructure.

Mobile Imaging Services

Vans and portable units serving nursing homes, long-term care facilities, and remote sites. Studies auto-send to the cloud the moment they are acquired — no on-site PACS, no storage hardware in the vehicle.

Clinics Using Teleradiology Services

Clinics and imaging centres that outsource reporting to a remote radiologist use PostDICOM to send studies without complex PACS-to-PACS connections. Generate a share link the moment the study arrives — your teleradiologist opens it in their browser from anywhere.

Rural & Remote Clinics

Clinics far from radiology departments use PostDICOM to send studies to off-site radiologists for reporting. Images reach the radiologist within minutes of acquisition without requiring PACS infrastructure on either end.

Portable & Bedside Imaging

Hospitals using portable X-ray units for ICU, ward rounds, or emergency patients can upload bedside studies directly to PostDICOM. Reporting clinicians access the study from any workstation on the network — or remotely.

Occupational Health Providers

On-site health screenings at factories, construction sites, and offices generate chest X-rays and other DICOM studies that need to reach an occupational physician quickly. PostDICOM delivers them from the screening device to the reporting doctor in minutes.

Sports Medicine & Events

Pitchside and event medical teams with portable imaging equipment can upload studies on-site and share them immediately with the team physician or a consulting specialist — from any internet connection, anywhere in the world.

How does a mobile imaging workflow go from field to radiologist report?

PostDICOM connects every step in four automatic stages — from device acquisition to cloud storage to teleradiology share link to referring physician delivery — without PACS infrastructure at the acquisition site or the radiologist's end.

01

Portable device acquires the study

Your DR X-ray, CR, ultrasound, or C-arm acquires the study at the patient location. The Medical Device Communicator sends it to PostDICOM automatically — the study is in the cloud within minutes of acquisition, regardless of where the device is.

02

Study lands in the cloud

The study appears immediately in your PostDICOM account, organised by patient and date. Your team can review it from the van, the office, or anywhere else — any browser, on compatible PCs, Macs, or tablets, no additional software to install.

03

Remote radiologist receives a share link

Generate a password-protected link and send it to your teleradiologist by email. They open the study in their browser from any location — no VPN, no PACS client, no additional DICOM software needed. Set an expiry date on the link.

04

Report and images delivered to the referring physician

After reporting, share the study and the PDF report to the referring physician via a separate secure link. The referring doctor views images and reads the report in their browser — no additional DICOM software or PostDICOM account needed at their end.

What features does a cloud PACS for mobile radiology need?

PostDICOM includes field-to-cloud upload, teleradiology sharing, referring physician delivery, portable device integration, and multi-unit management — all built to work together from day one.

Field-to-Cloud Upload

The Medical Device Communicator connects your portable DR, CR, ultrasound, or C-arm directly to PostDICOM. Studies route to the cloud automatically after acquisition — whether the device is in a care home, a sports field, or a screening van.

Teleradiology Sharing

Generate a password-protected share link for any study and send it to your remote radiologist by email. They open it in their browser on compatible PCs and Macs — no additional DICOM software, no VPN, no additional PACS client needed at their end.

Zero-Footprint Dicom Viewer

The full PostDICOM viewer runs in any browser — no installation on the radiologist's workstation. Zoom, window and level, measurements, MPR, MIP, and 3D volume rendering are all available the moment the link is opened.

Referring Physician Delivery

Once the radiologist has reported, share the study and the PDF report back to the referring physician via a separate password-protected link. The referring doctor views the images and reads the report in their browser — no additional DICOM viewer required at their end.

Multi-Unit Management

Manage all your mobile imaging units and service locations from a single PostDICOM account. Organise studies into folders by location, date, or patient. Assign role-based access so each operator, radiologist, and coordinator sees only what they need.

Order & Worklist Management

Pre-register patients before heading to the site by creating a scan order in PostDICOM. Your portable device retrieves the worklist automatically via DICOM MWL and the operator selects the correct patient before scanning. Incoming studies are matched to the order and filed under the correct patient record — no manual data entry at the device. For unscheduled scans, PostDICOM builds the patient record automatically from the DICOM tags.

Teleradiology

How do mobile imaging providers send studies to a remote radiologist?

PostDICOM closes the loop automatically — studies go from the device to the cloud and from the cloud to the radiologist in minutes, with nothing to install and no VPN at either end.

Common questions

How does a portable device send studies to PostDICOM from the field?

The Medical Device Communicator (MeDiC) is a lightweight software component installed on a laptop or workstation connected to your imaging device. It routes DICOM studies automatically to PostDICOM over an internet connection after each acquisition. As long as the vehicle or site has internet access — including 4G/LTE — studies arrive in the cloud within minutes.

Can we send studies to a teleradiologist who is not a PostDICOM user?

Yes. You generate a password-protected share link for any study and send it to the teleradiologist by email. They click the link, enter the password, and open the full PostDICOM viewer in their browser — no additional DICOM software, no PostDICOM account, and no VPN required at their end.

Can we deliver images and reports to the referring physician?

Yes. You can generate a separate share link for the referring physician containing the imaging study and any attached PDF reports. The referring doctor opens the link in their browser without any additional software or account. You can set an expiry date on the link and control whether it is password-protected.

What imaging modalities are supported?

PostDICOM supports all standard DICOM modalities used in mobile imaging — digital radiography (DR), computed radiography (CR), ultrasound, fluoroscopy, C-arm, dental X-ray, and others. Any device that outputs standard DICOM files is compatible with the Medical Device Communicator.

What happens if the device location has a poor or intermittent internet connection?

The Medical Device Communicator queues studies locally if the connection is lost and uploads them automatically when connectivity is restored. Studies are not lost if the connection drops during acquisition or upload.

Can we manage multiple mobile units from one account?

Yes. All units are connected to a single PostDICOM account. Studies from every unit arrive in the same cloud library, organised by location, date, or patient folder. You can define role-based access so each operator, radiologist, and administrator sees only the studies relevant to their role.

Can PostDICOM integrate with our RIS or scheduling system?

Yes. PostDICOM offers JavaScript, FHIR, and DICOMweb integration options, usable from the browser or server side. Connect to your radiology information system or scheduling platform to automate worklist delivery to the device, study routing, and share link generation without manual steps in the PostDICOM interface. API access is included in the Enterprise plan.

Where is study data stored?

When you create your PostDICOM account, you select your primary storage location from 12 independent Microsoft Azure regions: EU (Germany (Frankfurt), France (Paris)), USA (East, West, South Central), UK (London), Switzerland (Zurich), Canada (Montreal), Asia-Pacific (Singapore, Australia (Sydney), India (Pune)), and South America (Brazil(São Paulo)). Your data is hosted within your selected jurisdiction to help you meet local data residency requirements and comply with regional healthcare privacy laws (such as GDPR or HIPAA).

Is the platform secure for patient imaging data?

Yes. All data in transit is encrypted via TLS 1.2 or 1.3 over HTTPS. Data at rest is encrypted with AES-256. Share links are password-protected and expire automatically on the date you set. PostDICOM holds CE Mark Class IIb medical device certification, ISO 13485 quality management, and ISO 27001 information security certification.

What happens to our data if we cancel our subscription?

Before cancelling, download all DICOM studies and documents you wish to retain. When your subscription ends, all patient data is permanently deleted from our systems. Your account record is retained for accounting purposes only.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. All plans include a 7-day free trial with full access to your selected plan's features. We use Stripe 3D Secure authentication at sign-up to verify your card — this is a 0 authorisation. You are not charged until your 7-day trial expires, and your subscription auto-renews unless cancelled. You can easily cancel any time before the trial ends.
